Ok now to the important utility for measuring the bottle volume.
In the Command Panel select Utilities and click on Measure button. Then click on New Floater so it is floating on the working space. This tool is your best friend.
If you can’t see Measure button, just find it in More… on the Utilities Panel.

Import the .ai into 3ds max, merge it with current scene and import as a single object.
Now scale it as close as possible to approximate measurement (the width or the height). Watch the number on the Measure Tool window.
After you are satisfied with the size, we need to reset the XForm and set it back to Editable Spline.
To do that, select Utilities again and click Reset XForm button. Inside it, click on Reset Selected. Then click Collapse, tick the Modifier Stack Result under Output Type and click Collapse Selected.
Again, if you can’t see Reset XForm and Collapse button, just find it in More… on the Utilities Panel.
Now add a Lathe modifier to make a complete bottle geometry. Notice it’s volume size on the Measure? Nice!

With the Measure window still floating on the workspace, we can go back to Editable Spline stack and refining our bottle design while maintaining the bottle approximate volume.
That’s it for now.. Hope you enjoy it ![]()
