Aside from slow downs (and license error) :) I think there’s a lot of problem with keyboard mapping. That’s because how Mac and PC keyboard are different. For example (the most obvious one) is Windows key and Command key on the mac swapping with Alt (option) key. A “normal” PC keyboard position is Ctrl - Winkey - Alt. And how can we remap Mac keyboard to be like that? There’s a nice and cool program that do just that (and free! please support him). Registry hacking and remap the key as we like. Go to http://www.randyrants.com/sharpkeys/ and install that program to Windows.

But we still cannot re-assign the fn key though. (If we can, how cool is that!)

After we remap the key by swapping Left Winkey to Left Alt key and vice versa, we are back in business!

A really nice and useful program!

But when we run it under VMware Fusion virtualization, we will facing another problem. On 3dsmax, it is crucial to do Alt-Ctrl combination with mouse to navigate through viewports. And whenever we press Alt-Ctrl (that is Ctrl-Command) Fusion will “ungrab” mouse and keyboard input back from virtual machine! That’s no good.

Setting up the shortcut in Fusion Preferences doesn’t help (v.2 that checkbox is always grayed out). The work around is quite easy. We just need to edit ~/Library/Preferences/VMware Fusion/preferences and change the “ungrab” mapping to whatever you like.

as you can see, I’ve changed the “Ungrab” to GUI-ALT-SHIFT. FYI, that GUI is actually Command-key

That’s it.. :D
